Fink Machine Adds Hargassner Biomass Boilers to Product Portfolio

Fink Machine Expands Portfolio to include Hargassner Boilers

Enderby, BC – November 18, 2025 – Fink Machine Inc., Canada’s largest supplier of commercial wood chip and wood pellet biomass boilers, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Hargassner North America to distribute their advanced boiler systems across Western Canada.

With over 180 installations and nearly two decades of experience, Fink Machine is Canada’s largest supplier of sustainable heating solutions for commercial, institutional, and small industrial applications. The addition of Hargassner boilers—ranging from 23 to 330 kW—enhances Fink’s product offering, providing greater flexibility and efficiency for clients seeking high-performance biomass systems.

We’ve been closely following Hargassner’s innovations for years,” said Burkhard Fink, Owner of Fink Machine Inc. “Their commitment to quality and sustainability aligns perfectly with our mission. These boilers complement our existing lineup and allow us to better serve the growing demand for renewable heating solutions.”

Hargassner, founded in 1984, is a global leader in biomass heating technology, with over 185,000 installations worldwide. Their systems are known for precision engineering, low emissions, and user-friendly automation—qualities that resonate strongly with forestry professionals, mechanical contractors, and sustainability-focused developers.

The combination of Fink Machine and Hargassner brings together two companies with proven track records,” said Stefan Kopp, CEO of Hargassner North America. “Clients in Western Canada will benefit from a partnership built on reliability and decades of delivering biomass results.”

Fink Machine’s reputation is further bolstered by award-winning installations such as the Sissons Court housing complex in Yellowknife, where containerized biomass systems provide reliable heat in extreme northern conditions, and the Lillooet Hospital, which showcases the integration of renewable energy in healthcare infrastructure.

These projects exemplify Fink’s pioneering work in containerized plug-and-play biomass heating plants, designed for rapid deployment in remote and challenging environments. The company also operates a private heating utility in Enderby, BC, serving 12 clients through a 1.6 km trench network.

NWT Energy Initiatives Report 2022-2023

Wood pellets: A renewable heating revolution in the Northwest Territories

Wood pellets: A Renewable Heating Revolution in the Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories (NWT) is making significant strides in transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources, and wood pellets are playing a pivotal role in this transformation. With extreme winters and a dispersed population, heating represents one of the territory’s largest energy demands, consuming a considerable share of the budget in households and public infrastructure. As highlighted in the 2022-2023 Northwest Territories Energy Initiatives Report, the use of wood pellets has emerged as a practical, sustainable, and cost-effective solution to meet these challenges.

High-profile facilities like the Legislative Assembly and correctional centers have integrated large-scale wood pellet systems, cutting costs and displacing thousands of liters of diesel annually. Since 2006, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has implemented 49 biomass heating projects ranging from 30 kW to 2,500 kW systems. Fink Machine has supplied over 30 of these systems including a number of prefabricated plants for rural and remote communities.

Switching to wood pellets offers multiple benefits:

  1. Environmental impact: Pellet systems drastically cut GHG emissions compared to fossil fuels. For instance, by substituting heating oil with wood pellets, facilities can significantly reduce their carbon footprint, contributing to Canada’s broader climate goals.
  2. Cost savings: While initial installation costs for pellet boilers may be high, operational costs are significantly lower. Pellets are generally cheaper than heating oil, and their price stability helps communities avoid the volatility of global oil markets.
  3. Energy independence: Pellet heating reduces reliance on imported diesel and heating oil, enhancing local energy resilience. This is particularly critical for remote communities where transporting fuel over long distances can be costly and logistically challenging.

The 2022-2023 Energy Initiatives Report underscores the importance of collaboration among governments, communities, and private stakeholders. As the NWT continues to embrace renewable energy, it sets a benchmark for other northern and remote regions facing similar challenges. For more information on the report check out this article.

Fueling the Future: Biomass District Heating in Canada

Fueling the Future: Biomass District Heating in Canada

District heating (DH) systems have been long-established in Canada, particularly in large urban settings and on university and college campuses. These systems efficiently heat multiple buildings by utilizing centralized heat generation and distribution networks. In recent years, biomass has emerged as a prominent fuel source for DH systems, offering a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional fossil fuels, especially in smaller, more localized applications.

One of the pioneering biomass-fueled DH systems in Canada is the District Energy system in Charlottetown, owned by Enwave, which has been operational for over three decades. This system serves 145 customers and is fueled by 26,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste and 36,000 tonnes of repurposed biomass annually. It has achieved a remarkable 90% reduction in municipal landfilling volume and has displaced 6.5 million gallons of fuel oil, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, for every dollar spent on biomass fuels, 70 cents circulate within the local economy, demonstrating the economic benefits of biomass district heating. Continue Reading HERE

Fink Machine to Distribute Directly

Press Release – March 19, 2024

Fink Machine Inc., Canada’s largest supplier of commercial biomass boilers is excited to announce that we have simplified our supply chain in an effort to reduce cost for our clients. Fink Machine will now be sourcing biomass boilers directly from European Manufacturer Mawera Holzfeuerungsanlagen GmbH. The Vitoflex 300 RF and Vitoflex 300 UF boilers previously distributed by Viessmann Canada will now return to their original model names of Pyrot (RF) and Pyrotec (UF). The boilers will continue to be both ASME and CSA certified for all variants. Fink Machine would like to thank Viessmann Canada for all their support over the past 16 years. We look forward to an exciting future dealing directly with Mawera.

Background

Fink Machine has been distributing Biomass boilers sine the early 2002’s. Originally Fink supplied KOB boilers manufactured in Austria. In 2007, KOB was purchased by Viessmann, a large diversified German boiler manufacturer. Viessmann Canada continued to supply the popular Pyrot and Pyrotec boilers to Fink Machine. As part of a move to standardize names Viessmann rebranded the Pyrot and Pyrotec to the Vitoflex 300-RF and Vitoflex 300-UF respectively. In 2020 Mawera took over the biomass division of Viessmann, while the biomass boilers continued to be distributed in North America by Viessmann Canada.

About Fink Machine

Fink Machine Inc is Canada’s Largest supplier of commercial Biomass boilers. Fink Machine has installed over 170 boilers totalling over 55 MW of biomass heating capacity. In addition to Mawera Boilers, Fink also distributes the Viessmann Vitoligno residential pellet boilers and Schmid industrial biomass boilers.

Fink Machine District Heating System Energy Centre

Fink Machine has owned and operated a district heating system since 2012. We have 11 clients connected and are looking to add more in 2020. We have over 1.6 km of trenches. Heat for the system is generated by a 540 kW Viessmann Vitoflex 300-RF wood chip boiler. Since it has come on line we have toured thousands of people through the energy centre. We have recorded a video so those that are not able to come to Enderby can see it. The video is available here. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
